French singer Amine stormed the pop charts with a distinctive style he called Rai'n'B -- i.e., a fusion of Algerian rai and American R&B.
Born Amine Mounder in Casablanca, Morocco, he vaulted to overnight success in 2005 when his debut single, "Ma Vie," peaked at number 15 on the French charts. At year's end, he also issued his first LP, Au Delà des Rêves. Its second single, "J'Voulais," rocketed to number one, and later in 2006 Amine returned to the top of the charts via "Sobri (Notre Destin)," a collaboration with R&B chanteuse Leslie. Three years later Amine returned with his sophomore release, 2009's Autour D'Eux. ~ Jason Ankeny
