Best known as Hot Chip's clear-voiced frontman, Alexis Taylor also pursued a solo career as an introspective singer/songwriter.
Taylor's debut, Rubbed Out, arrived in 2008 and found him trading his band's percolating electro-pop for more intimate, often acoustic fare. His duties with Hot Chip and his other project, About Group, kept him busy until 2014, when he resurfaced with the similarly gentle and reflective Await Barbarians, which featured him on every instrument except strings. Taylor returned to the studio to record his third album, Piano. Inspired in part by a rumored "piano" album by Alex Chilton, Taylor stripped back his own work and that of others to just voice, piano, and very little production or effects. The album was slated for a mid-2016 release. ~ Heather Phares
